Shamshad Hussain
Born in Bombay in 1946, Shamshad Husain embarked on a creative journey that traversed continents and artistic influences. He honed his craft by attaining a Diploma in Painting from the College of Fine Arts in Baroda and pursued Post Graduation studies at the esteemed Royal College of Art in London. The evolution of Shamshad Hussain’s color palette, shifting from lush greens to somber browns, blacks, and grays, serves as a poignant reflection of the gradual degradation of nature’s vitality. This transformation mirrors the ever-present decline witnessed in the natural world. Hussain’s artworks encompass a profound exploration of the human figure, both as an artistic form of expression and as a testament to his belief in humanity’s interconnected social existence. Immersed in a cultural confluence, his creative journey was marked by the juxtaposition of his Indian identity and the Western influences he absorbed during his late-Modernist British training.
