Renate Verbrugge

Renate, a New Zealand stone sculptor of Belgian origin, crafts her sculptures purely from inspiration, urging viewers to appreciate them not just with their eyes, but with their hands, hearts, and souls. Rejecting intellectual analysis, she believes that the emotions her sculptures evoke speak volumes. Her artistic process involves uncovering form within the stone by delicately removing its layers. Renate works entirely from a place of inspiration, surrendering her mental self to heed only her inner voice. Born in Belgium in 1964, she relocated to New Zealand in September 1995, where her passion for stone sculpting continues to thrive.
