Matthias Contzen

Matthias Contzen, born in 1964 in Aschaffenburg, Germany, embarked on his sculpting journey in the early 1980s at the European Academy of Fine Arts in Trier. He honed his craft at the Sculpture Academy in Munich, earning his diploma in 1991, and furthered his studies at the School of Fine Arts in Saarbrücken, graduating with a design degree in 1995. Notably, he clinched the 3rd prize in the international competition for design, Cultures, and Materials during this time. He pursued his mastery in sculpture with a Master’s degree in Mayen, near Koblenz. Aside from sculpting, Contzen was immersed in music, playing with various bands and undertaking extensive travels across Europe and Africa. Although he didn’t pursue music professionally, its influence remains a vital element in his artistic endeavors. His work as a sculptor delves into the essence of form, propelled by an unrelenting curiosity about its origins and its manifestation following an intricate, hidden pattern across the Universe’s vast and minute structures.
