Lalu Prasad Shaw
Lalu Prasad Shaw (born 1937, Bengal) is a distinguished Indian artist renowned for his paintings and printmaking. He earned a diploma in painting from the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, in 1959. Shaw's work is notably influenced by traditional Indian art forms such as the Kalighat Pat and Ajanta cave paintings, which he integrates into his unique style. His oeuvre primarily features highly stylized portraits of Bengali women and couples, capturing their expressions with minimalistic lines and colors, reflecting the essence of Bengali middle-class life. Shaw has been a significant figure in the resurgence of Indian printmaking since the late 1960s and has contributed to art education through his teaching roles.
