Hari Ambadas Gade
Hari Ambadas Gade stands among the pioneers of post-independence India’s abstract expressionist movement. As a co-founder of the progressive art movement, he championed an unconventional and dynamic artistic approach. Gade, akin to his counterparts in the Progressive Artists Group, rebelled against the constraints of academic art enforced by the British education system on Indian art education. His artistic journey extended beyond prolonged explorations of landscapes, encompassing the vivid realms of Kerala, Indian monsoons, and Rajasthan (Udaipur). His creative portfolio also embraced diverse subjects such as the slums and poverty of 1950s Bombay, still life compositions, and nude portraits.
